FALL SELECT PUMPKIN TOURNAMENT RULES
A.Check-in is one hour before your first game. Bring your completed roster and one of the following for every player (no exceptions):
I. 2018 picture USA Softball card (prior years are not acceptable); OR
II. Copy of birth certificate, player photo and 2018 non-photo USA Softball player card (or proof of USA Softball registration).
B. Proof of league insurance is required for all teams.
C. Rosters are limited to fifteen (15) players. No player may be added after the start of the first game. Rostered players must have been approved to participate on the respective select team by the OC
Fall Ball Federation. Players must have played in at least 50% of the OC Fall Ball Select games prior to the start of the tournament.
D. Fielding an ineligible player will result in forfeiture of games played and possible disqualification from the tournament with loss of registration fee.
2. GROUND RULES
A. There are no protests allowed in this tournament.
B. Sportsmanship: Team managers are responsible for and must have control of their players, coaches, and team followers at all times. Umpires have the responsibility and authority to eject any
team personnel or spectator for unsportsmanlike conduct (including off the field). An ejected coach, player or other team personnel is ineligible to participate in the team’s next game.
C. Metal cleats are allowed in 14U only.
D. No artificial noisemakers allowed.
E. Each team is responsible for cleaning their dugout after each game.
F. Each team is responsible for providing their own scorekeeper and scorebook. The home team is the official scorekeeper.
G. Home team will be determined by a coin flip at the plate meeting for every game.
H. The team listed first in pool play or on the top of the bracket shall occupy the third base dugout. The only exception is for a team playing back-to-back games on the same field, whereby that team
may stay in the same dugout.
I. Any team not ready to play at the scheduled game time shall lose by forfeit (score recorded as 7-0). Exception: Teams playing back-to-back games at different field locations will be afforded a
reasonable grace period to get to the next field.
J. The City of Laguna Niguel prohibits BBQ’s at all fields or in the parking lot.
K. No personal (open air) music devices are to be played on LNGS fields.
L. Alcoholic beverages in any form are prohibited at all fields and in parking lots.
M. Playing Rules: ASA rules are in effect except where amended below.
3. TOURNAMENT RULES
A. Pool play games 1hr 20 minutes DROP (Revert back rule).
B. All Elimination Games will be 1hr 20 minutes No New inning (Must Have a Winner).
C. Championship game: For 14U, 12U, 10U = 6 Innings. For 8U = 1:30 No New Inning or 6 Innings, whichever occurs first.
D. Pool play games with three team pools may end in a tie.
E. Pool play games with four team pools must have a winner.
In the event of a tie in a 4 team pool:
In the event of a tie in the first games of a four-team pool, the umpire or tournament site director will flip a coin with both coaches present. The winner of the coin toss will go to the winner’s game.
This is only to figure out where to play next. The score is still posted on both team’s pool play results.
F. Seeding will be determined in the following order: Win/Loss Record, Head to Head Results, Runs Allowed, Runs Scored.
G. For teams playing in a pool of 4 teams, the first game is to determine who advances to the winner/winner game. The second game is to determine seeding. Teams in the winner/winner game are playing for the #1 and #2 seeds. Teams in the loser/loser game are playing for the #3 and #4 seeds.
H. Elimination games must have a winner. USA Softball Tie Breaker Rules will be used if needed (ITB).
I. The following Run Ahead rule will be in effect for all tournament games (including Championship games): 12 after 3, 10 after 4, 8 after 5
J. Run limits: 8U = 4 runs per inning; all others = 5 runs per inning
K. For ALL Games, all players must bat around. No DP/Flex.
L. Courtesy runners are allowed for the pitcher and catcher of record. The last out shall be used.
M. No attempts to distract the pitcher or catcher will be allowed.
4. 8U SPECIFIC RULES
A. Teams will field 10 defensive players. Outfielders must stay on the grass outfield until the ball crosses home plate. Infielders must stay 25 feet from home plate until the ball crosses home plate.
B. No dropped 3rd strike. No Infield Fly rule.
C. Stealing: One base per pitch. A runner can be put out if she attempts to steal past one base. Should she reach the second stolen base safely, play stops and she will be returned back to the
prior base. Home is closed for stealing, but the umpire can award a runner home. A walked batter may not proceed beyond first base on the same pitch that they were walked on. A play at another
base does not release a runner to steal more than one base per pitch.
5. 10U RULE: 10U will have 3 outfielders only.
5.10U SPECIFIC RULES:
A. 10U will have 3 outfielders only.
B.10U Silver Bracket
- Due to division size, to ensure all teams play at least 3 games there will be a straight bracket
play, no pool.
- Games 1 through 5 will be 1hr 20 min DROP, reverting to the prior inning unless the home
team is in the lead or has taken the lead in the bottom of the inning when the game time
reaches 1 hr 20 min. ITB will be followed to determine a winner if the game results in a tie, as
each game must have a winner.
- Game 6 through game 9 will be 1hr 20 min NO NEW. ITB will be followed to determine a
winner if the game results in a tie, as each game must have a winner.
- The Championship will be 6 innings.
- Some teams eliminated earlier on will have 3 losses. Teams moving on deeper in the bracket
will be eliminated with 2 losses.
