Irvine Girls Softball Association is pleased to provide spring clinics for girls looking to improve their skills and get additional practice in all aspects of the game of Softball. Pitching and catching clinics provide position-specific education and skill development, and hitting and fielding clinics will help all players improve their game. This program provides a great low-cost way for Irvine Girls Softball Association players of all skill levels to get better and have fun in Softball. Sign up today at:

Clinics will be held on Sunday afternoons at Bill Barber Memorial Park, fields 2 and 3.

All clinics are $10 each, or 4 for $40

Hitting Clinic – 2:00-3:00 PM Sundays – Bill Barber Field 3

  • 2/25 – Basic hitting stance and load, work on proper swing form and head position, focus on foot positioning and body dynamics
  • 3/4 – Review and go deeper on stance and position, refine swing form, learn how to hit off tee to focus on details and improve form and power
  • 3/11 – Bunting basics, foot positioning, bat position and attack for bunting, live hitting and bunting
  • 4/15 – Putting it all together – live bunting and live hitting off machine

Fielding Clinic – 3:00-4:00 PM Sundays – Bill Barber Field 3

  • 2/25 – Basic fielding stance and approach to the ball, proper footwork when fielding fast and slow ground balls, glove side and backhand fielding, transition from fielding to throwing and how to properly throw to the base. Live fielding with ground balls.
  • 3/4 – Review and go deeper on stance, approach and transition, learn the differences in fielding from different positions and when throwing to different bases, learning how to read which base to throw to
  • 3/11 – Outfield basics and drills ,how to throw most effectively from the outfield, drop step technique, proper form in chasing fly balls in all directions, practice catching fly balls and throwing to infield/bases
  • 4/15 – Putting it all together – combo infield/outfield drills, relaying balls from outfield to different bases

Catching Clinic – 4:00-5:00 PM Sundays – Bill Barber Field 3

All catchers must have full catching gear (leg guards, chest protector, helmet). If you do not have gear, let us know and the league will provide loaner gear for each clinic

  • 2/25 – Catchers stance and details of body positioning, glove position, framing inside/outside, blocking, throwing down, conditioning
  • 3/4 – Review and go deeper on catching position and blocking, fielding bunts and fast throwdown to 1st, details on throwdowns to 2nd and 3rd base, conditioning
  • 3/11 – Advanced blocking technique, popups, refresher on fielding bunts and throwdowns, conditioning
  • 4/15 – Throws to each bag, bunts with throws, blocking the plate, how to field throws to the plate, tagging runners, positioning for catching and tagging out at home, conditioning

Pitching Clinic – 3:00-4:00 PM Sundays – Bill Barber Field 2
All pitchers must bring an adult to catch for them

  • 2/25 – C grip, wrist snaps, windmills, power line, body mechanics fundamentals
  • 3/4 – Review C grip, wrist snaps and windmills, learn foot position and footwork, legal and illegal pitches
  • 3/11 – Review and practice warmups and pitching
  • 4/15 – How to get power into your pitch, basics of pitching to corners, finding a pitching rhythm
