Play- Up /

Play-Down Requests

May I request for my daughter to play in a division outside her age group?


Play-Up/Play-Down Requirements:

  • Any player born between Sep 1-Dec 31 in an EVEN year can choose to remain in their current division without notice or approval (these players are eligible for an additional year in their current division).
  • Any player that was granted permission to Play-up in the Fall and was born between Sep 1-Dec 31 in an EVEN year may again REQUEST to Play-up to a HIGHER Rec division in the Spring and must get approval from the Board.
  • All other players will NOT be allowed to Play-up in the Spring and will be required to play in their age appropriate division.
  • 6U eligible players may petition to Play-up to 8U based on age, experience, talent and appropriateness and with Board approval.
  • Play-down requests will NOT be allowed in the Spring.

Spring Rec Playoff

What is the New Spring Rec Playoff and How Does it Work?


Playoff Season (2024)

April 8 thru April 29 (following Spring Break)


  • Playoff Season consists of 7 game dates:
  • 3 weeknight games (normal nights)
  • 3 Saturday dates
  • Championship Monday
  • Format
  • Final Playoff Format and schedule will be determined at a later date and will be based on the number of teams in each Division
  • Format will consist of some form of Pool Play and Bracket Games
  • All Playoff games will be between Irvine teams (fill-in games against other leagues may be scheduled and will not count towards Playoff results)
  • Scores and Records will be kept
  • All Teams will continue to play through at least Closing Day regardless of Bracket outcomes
  • All Teams continue to practice once per week (14U 2x per week)
  • Some Weeknight BYEs and/or Saturday Doubleheaders may be necessary
  • Closing Day: Saturday, April 27
  • Championship Monday
  • 3 Championship games (8U, 10U & 12U) will be played Monday night, April 29 under the lights at Bill Barber


Friend Requests

May my daughter request to play with a friend or for a coach?


  Rec

  • 6U — Friend and Coach requests will be a primary consideration when forming teams, although we cannot guarantee that all requests will be honored
  • 8U  All players will be evaluated and will most likely be subject to a modified draft. Friend/Coach requests will be noted and considered, but no guarantees can be made that they will be honored.
  • 10U/12U/14U —All players will be evaluated and drafted by the coaches in these divisions. Friend and Coach requests will be provided to each coach and may be used as a criterion in selecting their teams. We cannot guarantee that any or all of these requests will be honored.



  Select

  • Friend requests will not be accepted. Players will be rostered on the team they are chosen for.


Where

& When

Where and when does IGSA play games and have practices?


  • Practices will be held primarily at Col. Bill Barber Park (BB), David Sills Lower Peters Canyon (DSLPC) or at Portola Springs (PS). Other fields in Irvine may be used as well, depending on need and availability
  • Please refer to Fields section for locations and addresses
  • Practices are typically held during the week
  • Weeknight practices are typically 90 minutes to 2 hours (6U typically 60-75 minutes)
  • Practice windows range anywhere from 4:00pm to 9:00pm, with most practices being held from 5:00-6:30 or 6:00-7:30.  Generally speaking, younger divisions will practice early in the evening with the older divisions practicing later.
  • Weekend practices, should there be any, would occur in the morning or early afternoon
  • Some games may be played outside of Irvine, but will usually be within southern Orange County
